Quilt sizes by bed
The finished size each bed needs, the mattress it covers, and the drop over the sides.
A quilt that covers a bed needs the mattress top plus a drop over both sides, or it looks like a tablecloth that shrank. The table gives the finished sizes our patterns are drafted to, the mattress each covers, and the drop you get. Throws and baby quilts have no bed to fit, so they are sized to what sells: a square throw for the sofa, a square baby quilt for the crib or the floor.
If your mattress is deeper than usual, add twice the extra depth to the width and pick the next size up.

Bed sizes cover the mattress sides with at least a 12 in drop. Square throws and baby quilts are the market standard; every pattern on this site states its own finished sizes.
